Today's weather

Sunny but cool

Today's birds

Morning in Bright

  • Four choughs on the verge by the golf course on the way out and back. And two there when we went out later
  • No bronzewings this morning
  • Treecreeper calling loudly by the car spot.
  • Three duckling families down by the river this morning. Including one family snuggled down in the sandy bank, all preening in the  morning sunshine. On the way back we saw one family traversing down Morses Creek where it meets the Ovens. They all got out on the opposite side under the footbridge except Dad kept swimming then waited at the confluence while they alls wam back out and negotiated the corner. It was very cute.
  • Four male king parrots digging in the acorn spot under the GB oaks.

At home

  • Friar birds in the garden again - in fact loud calling woke us up
  • wagtail pair on the back fence, happily hunting while I came and went gardening
  • also a small Y-R-thornbill family bopping around in the lawn as I worked
  • Red wattlebird in the side grevillea as I gardened
  • Magpie juvie having a little dust bath or just a relaxing while snuggled into the dirt around our little tree. Much later in the day, spotted him back there with sibling in the branch just above. They had fun pulling tails and playing beaky games, followed by the top maggie jumping down and alternately hopping on sibling and playing beaky games. Very fun to watch.

Other notes

  • Wasp queen back on her paper nest this arvo
  • Went out to myrtleford this morning and saw quite a few three-some Pacific herons, we assume they were family groups. The usual kookaburras on the wires near the hopfields
  • Went out to Bright this evening and there was a w-f-heron in one of the accommodation front yards.
