Grey and a little drizzly

Today's birds

Morning in Bright

  • On the way back from coffee, I spotted a Wonga! We did a U-ey and pulled over, and there it was, sitting in a tree by the rail trail, between the golf course and punka. We sat in the car and watched for a little while - and then realised we could hear one calling somewhere nearby too! Blurry phone cam photo below, best I could do given the circumstances!

At home

  • saw what I assumed was a spinebill zoom through the courtyard very low, straight into the grevillea. Wandered around to the side window to check... and it was a silvereye! It had a fat green caterpillar and it took off back to the acacia. Well. We watched for quite a while and it was going back and forth from the acacia, into the grevillea and/or the tomatoes, finding grabs and ferrying them back. So. nesting in the acacia? At one point there was a pair of them foraging too!
  • We went out later and stood in the courtyard to watch and a pair of fantails arrived on the side fence. Next minute they are in the tomatoes too, chasing each other around, within centimetres of where we are standing quietly watching. And then the silvereyes were back too - so it was all very busy and cute.
  • AND to top it all off, while we were out there a white faced heron flew past.
  • Adult + one juvie magpie drinking at the bowl this evening while I was having dinner.

Other notes

  •  we now have a whole lot less grubs in our plants :D
